The city of Monrovia is probably most known for their thriving old town area, with tons of delicious restaurants highlighting every type of food imaginable – you could literally tour the world just by eating your way through the restaurants lining Myrtle Avenue. Old Town Monrovia is the heart of the city and home to a long standing tradition, the Friday Night Street Fair where you can buy local produce and crafts, take the family for an evening outing, and enjoy unique foods. This is the place to be on a Friday evening!
Similar to the hidden Mickey’s at Disneyland parks, Monrovia also has a similar scavenger hunt. Can you spot all the Samson the Bear’s located throughout the city? In the 1990’s a very large black-bear came down from the mountains and made Monrovia his home. He became a staple in the community and the city decided to commemorate this Monrovia resident by commissioning statues throughout the city. You can find seven different versions of Samson the Bear at iconic areas in Monrovia.
One of my favorite outdoor areas in Monrovia is Canyon Park. It is a short drive up Canyon Boulevard and for a small parking fee you gain access to a quiet and secluded canyon with several hiking trail options, picnic areas and if you follow one specific trail, you will find a year-round waterfall.
